The East Side Gallery is 1.3 km. of
the Wall decorated with street art from
artists from 21 different countries.

About 44% of Berlin is made up of
recreational areas, parks, rivers and
forests.

In August the annual Berliner Beer
Festival takes place: about 320
brewers from 86 countries and 2.000
different kinds of beers along a 2,2
kilometre long festival path with
drinking stands and music.

Once completed, the Berlin Wall
followed a 96 mile zigzag path. Only 27
miles of the wall divided East and
West Berlin. The rest of the wall
separated West Berlin from the
surrounding East German countryside.

Over 300 bunkers and hundreds of
kilometres of underground tunnels built
during the Nazi-era still remain under
the modern city of Berlin - although
mostly inaccessible due to crumbling
and floods from water tables.
