Visit medieval Gent
Gent is a little different from Bruges. It is less of an open air museum and also has a more modern city image including great shopping streets, a
Friday market and various museums. The city is rich in medieval buildings, towers, cathedral, churches, old streets and bridges and like Bruges it
dates back to the 9th century. Some of the highlights of Gent are to visit the Gravensteen Fortress, climb the Belfort Tower or see the Home of Alijn
which is symbolic of the era.

If you decide to do a canal cruise, you will get a lot of information on the history of Gent whilst enjoying the great city view from the water. Just by
walking inside a restaurant or bar you can get a glimpse of the atmosphere inside. Many of these buildings breathe history inside and out. If you get
tired of walking you can always stop the horse and carriage to take a sightseeing ride through the city.
